Britney Sleepy, ‘Scared,’ Pantyless (Again)
Spears feels, flashes; plus, the latest couples news with Reese & Jake, Paris & Stav, along with news on Uma, Lindsay, Nicole and a totally not stupid Tara Reid …
After a quarter century of living, Britney Spears has yet to master a concept so basic that even tots Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, likely understand it: Actions have consequences. This week, the calamitously misguided mess repeatedly demonstrated her inability to link cause and effect, such as how oversleeping makes you miss things, or how going commando can give paparazzi a disturbingly clear view of your private parts. Here’s the latest:
Snooze Control: Brit’s beleaguered lawyers were in Los Angeles Superior Court bright and early Thursday morning for an “emergency” custody hearing with Kevin Federline’s legal pit bulls, arguing that it was “developmentally and psychologically” important for her sons to have overnight visits with her. (The judge, however, again expressed concern over her alleged “substance issues and emotional issues.”) So, where was Spears while this important meeting was taking place? Turns out she may have been snoozing. While her lawyer blamed the media frenzy outside the courthouse for her no-show, photo agency-cum-Britney defender X17.com claims she overslept after taking a prescription medication for a bout of “severe insomnia.” Of course, she might slumber a little better if she cut down on the caffeine-crammed Frappuccinos and cans of Red Bull she likes so much. Another thing that might help: if she went to bed at a reasonable hour. According to Us Weekly, she was seen driving around until 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
Better Late Than Never?: Justice may be blind, but is it also starstruck and a little bit of an enabler? Five hours after the scheduled custody hearing, Britney, sporting jeans and sunglasses (she reportedly has pink eye, just like Federline) and carrying a Coke, descended on the courthouse, where 15 sheriffs’ deputies were on hand to escort her to the courtroom (via TMZ). About 45 minutes later, she exited, having been granted one monitored overnight visit a week with her sons. And what did she do to show her appreciation for this rare vote of confidence? If you answered, “Attended a court-ordered parenting class” or, “Sipped hot cocoa at home while watching the WE channel,” you don’t know Spears. Instead, she made a beeline for Neiman Marcus, where she shopped and had her matted coif styled, according to X17.
Home Is Where the Paparazzi Aren’t: No matter where Brit-Brit goes, her personal paparazzi contingent is always right there — and often seem to anticipate her arrival. So it seems strange they would have prevented her from making it to the hearing Thursday morning, especially because such qualms didn’t stop her from stepping out Wednesday afternoon to take care of pressing matters like chowing down on Mexican food and making a Target run. The purposeless popwreck’s cheesily delicious lunchtime excursion created the usual scene of chaos, as she waded through a throng of shutterbugs with her female companion du jour. What made this photo op a little different was her emotionless, monotone mantra of, “I’m scared,” which TMZ reports she repeated more than a dozen times on her way into the restaurant. Nonchalant fear wasn’t the only thing Brit was feeling. She also told OK!, “I’m shaky. I feel shaky.” Following lunch, she headed to Target, either to shop for her boys (per OK!) or look for a camera charger (per TMZ). Spears attempted to enter the reasonably priced retail outlet amid a crush of cameras while a store security guard stood nearby with an expression that said, “No way do I get paid enough for this.” TMZ says Britney soon got fed up, muttered how she was “so over it” and later yelled at the paps, “What the [bleep] do you guys want?!” Still, when she left the store (empty-handed, it appears), she offered them a “Bye, y’all!” before driving off.
No Bra, No Panties, No Thank You: With the court closely monitoring Britney’s every move, you’d think she’d try to avoid the type of behavior that called her judgment into question in the first place. Nope. She still can’t be bothered to throw on foundation garments for her meaningless public outings. On Wednesday, she not only unbuttoned her red minidress low enough to give the illusion she was smuggling a couple of bald guys under it, but she once again traumatized the public at large by revealing her bikini wax preferences while climbing out of the highly unsanitary (we’re assuming) driver’s seat of her Mercedes. (On the plus side, at least we know there’s some personal grooming going on. Now if only her disaster zone of a hairdo would receive the same kind of attention).
Spears charged with misdemeanour counts in L.A. parking lot crash
LOS ANGELES – Britney Spears legal woes mounted Friday as prosecutors charged her with misdemeanour counts of hit and run and driving without a valid license after she allegedly smashed her car into another in a parking lot in August.
If convicted, the singer could face up to six months in jail and a US$1,000 fine for each count, said Nick Velasquez, spokesman for the city attorney’s office.
Messages left with Spears’ lawyers were not immediately returned.
The accident occurred Aug. 6, Velasquez said.
Spears, 25, was filmed by paparazzi that day steering her car into another vehicle as she tried to turn into a spot in a Studio City parking lot. After assessing the damage to her own car only, she was shown on paparazzi video walking away.
Three days after the accident, the owner of the other vehicle, Kim Robard-Rifkin, filed a police report, and investigators later determined that Spears does not have a license, officials said.
Robard-Rifkin, a 59-year-old registered nurse, learned it was Spears who had hit her car through a video posted on the celebrity website CelebTV.com.
She said she was “sort of amused and sort of shocked” when she learned Spears was the source of the damage, adding that she had expected to hear from the star’s camp.
“I simply want my car fixed, the same as I would fix somebody’s car if I had done that,” Robard-Rifkin told the site in August.
Spears was scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 10, but she is not required to appear.
The case comes days after a court commissioner ordered her to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week in her child custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline. She must also meet eight hours a week with a parenting coach, who will observe and report back to the court about her parenting skills.
Her management firm also recently dropped her, and her performance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards was widely panned. Spears’ new album is set for release Nov. 13.
Report from canadianpress
Britney’s #1 fan is now as famous as her.
(Sept. 12) – Amid all the trash talk that filled the blogosphere this week in the aftermath of Britney Spear’s lackluster VMA appearance, the Internet also played host to a series of fan-produced apologias.
These Zapruder-like frame-by-frame video analyses by Spears’ supporters seek to explain her sloppy stylings and costume choices, along with near-hysterical pleas to end the criticism.
Chris Crocker’s Emotional Plea
One plea, posted by a video blogger who calls himself Chris Crocker , was so overdramatic in its call for a moratorium on trashing Britney that one could not help but to first laugh at his histrionics, then to wonder if this was legitimately heartfelt or just an act, then to re-watch it several times, and then ultimately e-mail the link to friends. The video “Leave Britney Alone! ” has had more than 1.6 million hits on YouTube, and has become — perhaps as Crocker intended — something new for the Internet to talk about rather than Britney’s performance at Sunday’s VMAs. “Her song is called ‘Gimme More’ for a reason,” Crocker cries in the video, addressing the camera through tear-smudged eyeliner and from underneath a bed sheet, “because all you people want is more, more, more, more, more!”

“Leave her alone,” he wails, “you’re lucky she even performed for you bastards.” Crocker is a complicated character. He wouldn’t disclose his real name to ABC News, but said he was 19, lived in a small town in Tennessee and wanted to be an actor. Though the video is perfectly amateurish, many of the photos on his MySpace page look professionally shot and he admitted the posted clip was his second take. He described many of the 64 other videos on his page as performance pieces, but insisted that his latest polemic was the real deal, an emotional request to, well, leave Britney alone. The Real Deal “There’s been a lot of speculation that because I do a lot of acting in my videos, that this wasn’t actually a real moment,” Crocker said. Crocker has been posting videos on YouTube for six months and has acquired quite a fan base.
A representative from LOGO, MTV’s gay-themed channel, confirmed that Crocker had met with them to pitch a television show but that nothing was in development. “I made the video in the heat of the moment. She needs to hear someone sticking up for her. Even people who stick up for her don’t do it to the extent that I want to, I’ve been a fan since I don’t remember, and I wanted to fulfill my duty,” Crocker said. Despite Crocker’s defense, however, he knows Britney didn’t bring her A-game to the VMAs. “I’m not delusional. People are making all sorts of excuses, saying her heel broke, or MTV couldn’t afford the insurance for the magic act she wanted to do, or she heard [host and comedienne] Sarah Silverman’s jokes about her. I don’t care why she screwed up,” he said. Crocker said he has received a lot of flack for this and previous videos and could therefore relate to Britney being maligned. Comments from YouTube users, posting on his video, ranged from “Seek therapy NOW. This is NOT normal behavior” to “someone please shoot this f—–t.” “We’re both black sheep. We’re both uninhibited artists. Let people draw there own conclusions,” he said. According to psychologists familiar with fan behavior, Crocker’s feelings of relating to Spears and wanting to support her are pretty normal for loyal fans, especially teenagers. “Adolescence is always a time of hysteria and Britney Spears is a part of everything,” said Stuart Fischoff, senior editor of the Journal of Media Psychology. “It’s not unusual for adolescents to vent; only now, everyone has a forum on the ‘net. They can express their love, hate, outrage or any other thoughts with likeminded people. These kids can identify with Britney and can feel certain empathy for what she is going through because many of them have been ridiculed,” he said. Crocker told ABC NEWS.com and has expressed in earlier videos that he feels persecuted in his small southern town for being gay. “People see something in the celebrity they identify with,” celebrity psychologist Jennifer Berman, said. “Britney is an underdog now and people relate to that, and feel impassioned. Because many of them have been underdogs,” she said. Share the Love Crocker’s video undoubtedly reflects real fan sympathies being voiced on the Web. In an effort to clear Britney’s name, fans have poured over footage from her performance analyzing every misstep to explain just what went wrong. In a video entitled “VMA Video Truth” YouTube user spencergaum breaks down Spear’s performance frame by frame in an attempt to prove that the heel of her boot broke while dancing, which resulted in such a slipshod showing. Jordan Miller, webmaster of the popular Spears fansite breatheheavy.com, explains that although the singer’s fans are “sometimes her harshest critics” there has been a real effort online “to love and support Britney through this difficult time.” “She just needs to get back into the swing of things,” he told ABC NEWS.com, echoing the sentiments of many of her fans. “Give her a little more time, she’ll kill it.”

About Britney Spears
Britney Jean Spears (born December 2, 1981) is an American pop music singer, songwriter, and dancer. Spears has sold over seventy-six million albums worldwide according to Time magazine. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) ranks her as the eighth best-selling female artist in American music history, having sold thirty-one million albums in the U.S.
Spears is best known for her studio albums, music videos, and songs such as “…Baby One More Time”, “Oops!…I Did It Again”, “I’m a Slave 4 U” and “Toxic”, for which she won a Grammy Award. In January 1999, Britney released her first studio album …Baby One More Time, followed closely by the 2000 studio album Oops!… I Did It Again. Her third album Britney was released in November 2001, followed by a fourth album In The Zone in November 2003. The collection Greatest Hits: My Prerogative was released in November 2004. Her fifth studio album will be released worldwide on November 12, 2007 and on November 13, 2007 in the U.S.
Spears’ fame in the music industry has led her to experiment with other forms of media, including film and reality television. She is most noted for her starring role in the 2002 movie Crossroads. Spears has also made guest appearances in various other movies and television programs. Her success as a singer led her to several high-profile advertising deals and endorsements.
Spears’ marriage to back-up dancer Kevin Federline and the birth of her two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, put her music career on hold. The couple’s divorce in late 2006 was highly publicized and followed by a legal battle for custody of their two children.
Spears’ debut single “…Baby One More Time,” released in the fourth quarter of 1998, became an instant international success, earning nine million sales worldwide. The music video accompanying the song featured Spears dressed in a Catholic schoolgirl uniform.. The album of the same title was released in January 1999 and reached number one on the Billboard 200, although it received mixed reviews. All Music Guide gave it 4 out of 5 stars, while Rolling Stone gave it 2 out of 5, noting that, “While several Cherion-crafted kiddie-funk jams serve up beefy hooks, shameless schlock slowies, like ‘E-Mail My Heart,’ are pure spam.” Rolling Stone later featured Spears on their April 1999 cover in a photo shoot that triggered speculation the seventeen-year-old had breast implants. The success of Spears’ music coupled with her controversial image made her one of the year’s biggest stars. In December 1999, she won four Billboard Music Awards, including Female Artist of the Year. A month later, she took home the Favorite Pop/Rock New Artist award at the American Music Awards. At the 2000 Grammy Awards, Spears received two nominations in the categories of Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for …Baby One More Time, but lost to Christina Aguilera and Sarah McLachlan respectively.

Following the success of her debut album, Spears released Oops!… I Did It Again, which debuted at number one in the U.S., selling 1,319,193 units during its first week of sales, the record for any female artist.. Concerning both musical content and sales, the album was very similar to Spears’ debut, although it fared better with critics. The album’s lead single, “Oops!… I Did It Again,” broke the record for most radio station additions in a single day and quickly became a top ten hit in the U.S. and other countries. 2000 also saw Spears launch her first world tour, the Oops!… I Did It Again World Tour. During the tour, she made a stop in New York for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. As part of her performance, she ripped off a black suit to reveal a provocative nude-colored and crystal-adorned outfit that generated much controversy. She finished the year with two more Billboard Music Awards and two Grammy nominations for Oops!… I Did It Again in the categories of Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
In early 2002, Spears’ four-year relationship with Justin Timberlake ended. Speculation that Spears had been unfaithful began circulating due to Timberlake’s 2002 song “Cry Me a River” and its subsequent music video. The song’s music video showed an actress playing what could be construed as a Britney look-alike with certain physical features resembling Spears. The video also featured an actual photo taken of Spears and Timberlake standing together. It can be seen when Timberlake kicks the cracked picture frame holding the picture towards the camera, because the director freeze framed the shot. Timberlake has denied that it was meant to portray Britney. June 2002 saw the opening of Spears’ restaurant Nyla in New York City, serving Louisianan and Italian styled cuisine. However, she was pulled out of the business venture in November as a result of debts and management issues.
In a September 2003 interview with Tucker Carlson of CNN, on the subject of the 2003 Iraq War, Spears said, “Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision he makes and should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens.” The footage of this quote later appeared in Michael Moore’s documentary film Fahrenheit 9/11.
Spears married childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander on January 3 2004 at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. The marriage lasted fifty-five hours, ending with an annulment granted on January 5, which stated that Spears “lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to marriage because before entering into the marriage the Plaintiff and Defendant did not know each other’s likes and dislikes, each others’ desires to have or not have children, and each other’s desires as to State of residency”.
Months after the Las Vegas incident, Spears embarked on The Onyx Hotel Tour which was cancelled in June, after Spears injured her knee during the filming of the video for the single “Outrageous”. An MRI showed floating cartilage in her knee.
Spears reportedly became involved in the Kabbalah Centre in September 2004 through her friendship with Madonna. However, she publicly left the religion in 2006, stating on her website, “I no longer study Kaballah, my baby is my religion.”
